We're Building a Movement for Grassroots Change

We believe that every individual has the power to create positive change in their community and the world - we just need to give them the right tools! We collaborate with our community & beyond through workshops & events to facilitate co-creation and collaboration between individuals, groups and organisations working across the social change space.

Our Values

We believe lasting social change is built through solidarity, not charity. Rather than positioning people as problems to be solved or recipients of help, we work alongside individuals and communities as equals, recognising shared responsibility for creating fairer social and economic systems. Solidarity affirms that our wellbeing is interconnected, and that justice is achieved through collective action, not one-directional giving.

Solidarity Over Charity

Community-Led and Participatory Practice

We believe communities hold the knowledge, relationships, and creativity required to address the challenges they face. Our work centres grassroots leadership and participatory approaches, supporting people to shape the ideas, initiatives, and systems that affect their lives. Change is strongest when it grows from lived experience and collective wisdom.

Learning, Reflexivity, and Critical Inquiry

We believe no single organisation or individual can address systemic challenges alone. Collaboration and collective action enable shared learning, coordinated efforts, and stronger movements for change. By working together across communities, sectors, and disciplines, we can amplify impact and build alternatives that endure.

We are committed to learning as a tool for social change. Through education, critical inquiry, and reflection, we support individuals and communities to better understand complex systems and expand what feels possible. We believe meaningful change begins with asking better questions, challenging assumptions, and remaining open to new ways of thinking.

Collaboration and Collective Action

We believe social systems should support human dignity, care, and collective wellbeing. Our work affirms that people are not resources to be depleted, but beings deserving of respect, safety, and the conditions to thrive. We centre care as both a value and a practice in how we imagine a just future.

Care, Wellbeing, and Human Dignity

School of Social Impact

Through our School of Social Impact, we bring high-quality, accessible social impact education to changemakers around the world. Our online programs and open-access resources teach the foundations of effective impact work—Theory of Change, impact strategy, systems thinking, and design thinking—in ways that are practical, flexible, and grounded in real-world change-making.

Changing Times Media

Changing Times Media is our media and communications initiative, designed to amplify positive stories and spark meaningful conversations. From our podcast, Changemaker Q&A, to our print and digital publication, Changing Times Newspaper—launched during the COVID-19 era—we create platforms for young people to share ideas, reflect on global challenges, and inspire collective action through storytelling.

Community Building and Network

We believe change happens in community. That’s why we host in-person workshops, events, and collaborative projects with local schools, grassroots organisations, and youth networks to build strong, values-aligned communities of practice. Whether designing impact strategies or creating space for shared learning, we’re here to grow a more connected and resilient ecosystem of changemakers.

The Humanitarian Changemakers Network was founded in 2020, evolving out of a series of SEQld-based workshops and resources created by our founder, Tiyana J, who had almost a decade of experience working and volunteering in the social change space. Today, we are a hybrid social enterprise, engaging in trade through our platforms School of Social Impact (education), Changing Times (media), and Theory of Change AU (consulting), and redistributing profits to fund our impact initiatives.

Our goal at the Humanitarian Changemakers Network is to create an enabling environment for people to be able to access role models, opportunities, and resources, to catalyse them to become agents of change and scale up their impact— by building strong networks, developing their capacity, changing narratives, and taking direct action in the community.

See Us in Action

Curious about what our work looks like on the ground? From hands-on workshops to creative collaborations and strategy sessions with young changemakers, our in-person programs are where theory meets practice—and where transformation begins.
